Christmas is a busy month for everyone, and churches in particular. We celebrate not just the birth of a nice baby in a land far away but “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14). God came to live with us! Amazing! As part of our Christmas celebrations we hold a Nativity Service. This year was an exceptionally excellent production. The children re-told the nativity through drama and song. Afterwards all our guests were invited to stay for tea (pizza and treats) so we could get to know each other better.
Our second festive service was Carols by Candlelight. The church looked really beautiful by the flickering light cast by the dozens of candles on the windowsills. We sang our hearts out with 9 carols about the coming of Jesus and God’s love for us. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “Angels from the Realms of Glory” and “Joy to the World” were some of the amazing praises sung. We also sang “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” which is perhaps less well known, but a firm Buccleuch favourite. If you’re not familiar with it have a listen here. We’re not quite the choir singing in that YouTube clip, but we’re enthusiastic singers and we have a pretty good band (not that we’re biased). Carols by Candlelight was followed by hot drinks, mince pies and shortbread.
We also have a New Year’s Day service, to kick off 2020 the right way. If you’re in Edinburgh you’ll be very welcome. Come along to Buccleuch for noon on New Year’s Day and worship with us.
