Changes to Services
After lengthy discussions on the future arrangements for services in Buccleuch, the Kirk Session has decided as follows:
Starting on Sunday 12th February, there will be only two Sunday services, one at 11am and one at 5.30pm. Both services will include hymns and musical accompaniment, as well as Psalms. The morning service will be similar in form to the recent well-attended Christmas morning service and the evening service will be similar in form to the present 5pm service.
The reasons for the decision are as follows:
1. We are convinced of the need for New Testament gospel praise - that is, praise that reflects the huge doctrinal development in the New Testament.
2. The Psalms themselves encourage the use of musical accompaniment.
3. Having two evening services created difficulties - for YF, Forum, and door duty - and it gave the impression of dividing the congregation.
4. The 5pm service has been successful in catering for those with young families.
The Kirk Session recognises that not everyone in the congregation may be happy with this new arrangement, but we urge you all to recognise the gospel motivation of the Session in this, and to do all in your power to remain united as a congregation.
